Music Lesson Scholarships
Every year for the past 4 years the Academy has awarded music lesson scholarships to children referred to us by the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton. The one year scholarships were created to provide music lesson opportunities to families that, for a variety of reasons, are not able to provide lessons for themselves. Since the program began we have put over $15000.00 back into our community!
There are currently 4 children taking lessons at our school at no cost to their families. Each one year scholarship includes a weekly private lesson on the instrument their choice, and an instrument to take home to practice on if necessary.
Although the BBBS music lesson scholarship is an Academy of Music program the funding comes directly from our Fiddle Orchestra program.
The Oakville/Georgetown Celtic Fiddle Orchestras meet on a weekly basis to learn and prepare for semi-annual concerts and a variety of charity performances throughout the year. Led by Academy Director James Franczek the orchestras play a wide range of Celtic fiddle music. Musicians come from all over Southern Ontario to learn and perform with the orchestras. Every year the orchestras present a Spring concert and a Christmas concert in Oakville and Georgetown. The fiddle orchestras are the reason we are able to give so much back to our community. Without them the scholarships could not exist.
The Celtic Fiddle Orchestra Christmas concerts are are in Oakville on Saturday December 5th at 7pm and in Georgetown on Friday December 11th at 7pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids under 12. Call or email the Academy to get yours before they sell out!
Pet of the Month – Sailor
Sailor is a 2 year old purebred Labrador Retriever. She’s considered a yellow Lab, but most of her fur is red. She has a calm temperament and loves to cuddle, but also has tons of energy to play and run at the provincial park every day. Mary and Adelaide asked for a dog for three years, and they were so delighted when their Mom relented.
Would you like us to feature your pet? Email the school with a picture and a short paragraph about your awesome pet and we’ll feature them on our Facebook page and newsletter.
“Both my daughter and I are taking lessons (violin – together – and piano – just her) and are loving it. Our teachers are perfect for us and dealing with the boring business stuff is a delight with James, the guy in charge. Talk about people who love what they do! It’s infectious… :-)” Rebecca Ann King
